Your treatment begins with a consultation to understand how you are feeling and identify any areas that need particular attention. Your therapist then uses a combination of traditional techniques such as kneading, rolling, pressing, rubbing, stretching and gentle mobilisation. The treatment can range from firm and invigorating to slower and more soothing, depending on your body, your preferences and what you need on the day. You remain fully clothed or wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for many Tui Na treatments, although your therapist will advise you on what is most appropriate for your treatment. A treatment for body and mind Tui Na is not simply about working on individual muscles. Traditional Chinese medicine views the body as an interconnected system, and Tui Na is traditionally used to encourage the smooth flow of Qi (energy) and support balance within the body. The combination of rhythmic movement, focused pressure and stretching can create a treatment that feels both grounding and revitalising. You may leave feeling more open and mobile, with a greater sense of physical ease and relaxation.
